Pedro Steven Buarque de Macedo, M.D.
Dr. Pedro Steven Buarque de Macedo graduated summa cum laude with his bachelors of science in physics from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He then received his medical degree at the University of Maryland UMAB School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Buarque de Macedo served his internship in internal medicine at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC. He also served his neurology residency as chief resident at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. Buarque de Macedo has been in private practice in the Washington, DC, region since 1991. He has been on the clinical faculty of the department of neurology at Georgetown University and is currently a clinical assistant professor of neurology at George Washington University. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Buarque de Macedo is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
Dr. Buarque de Macedo has special interest in behavioral neurology, headaches, chronic pain, closed head injury, and neurorehabilitation.
Ilene Buarque de Macedo, M.D. Dr. Ilene Buarque de Macedo received her Bachelor of Science majoring in biology from the Lafayette College in Easton, PA. She then received her medical degree from Hahneman University School of Medicine. Dr. Buarque de Macedo served her internship at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, in internal medicine. She also served her neurology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Ilene Buarque de Macedo is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. She is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Ilene Buarque de Macedo has a special interest in cognitive neurology.
Anthony Bruno, M.D. Dr. Anthony Bruno received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Bruno served his internship at the General Surgery Glendale Community Hospital in Glendale, CA. He also served as the chief of emergency medicine at General Surgery Harbor General Hospital/University of California at Los Angeles Torrance, CA. Dr. Bruno served his cardiovascular surgical fellowship United States Public Health Service NIH/National Heart Institute, University of Rome, Italy. He also served a fellowship in cardiovascular surgery for the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Hospital. Dr. Bruno did a post-doctoral fellowship in oncological surgery at the University of Los Angeles California City of Hope Medical Center, Duarte, CA. Dr. Bruno is a member of the St. Louis Society. He was also member of the United States Public Health Service Associate Bureau holding the position of a director, in the Bureau of Community Health. Dr. Bruno is an assistant clinical professor at George Washington University. In addition to English, he is fluent in Spanish, Italian, French, and speaks some Russian.
Arthur Brantz, M.D. Dr. Arthur Brantz was born and raised in Southern California. The son of a musician, he started medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico. He then finished his medical schooling at the State University of New York Downstate in Brooklyn. His medical degree was granted by the State of New York in 1979. He went on to do an internship in New York City with New York Medical College at Metropolitan Hospital. Residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology was in San Francisco at Mount Zion Hospital. This program emphasized holistic maternal care and natural childbirth at a birthing center. Working here, with midwives, was his first exposure to a more inclusive and gentle practice of medicine. After his residency, Dr. Brantz joined another Ob/Gyn where he gained extensive surgical and clinical experience, learning many new procedures and acting as a preceptor to teach other physicians, especially laser and minimally invasive procedures such as sclerotherapy for spider veins. He brought these skills to Washington Medical Group from Fairfax Hospital were he was an Associate Clinical Professor which involved covering the hospital and medical students/ residents from George Washington University. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics/Gynecology. Dr. Brantz no longer delivers babies but now emphasizes treating the "whole" patient which been a natural transition to Primary Care. He has a special interest in Gynecologic Endocrinology. This has led him to caring for many transgender patients in the mid-Atlantic region. He is a regular speaker at Provincetown and other venues concerning hormonal care. He also offers pre and post- op care in a caring and non-judgmental environment when one is far from their surgeon. On a personal note, Dr. Brantz has been happily married for over 25 years and has two children, both attending college, one an engineer and the other an artist. Hobbies include fishing and love for old cars. He is also bilingual.
Eric Meyer, D.C. Dr. Eric Meyer received his bachelor's of science in exercise physiology from the University of Delaware, where he also performed graduate studies in biomechanics and exercise science. He graduated magna cum laude with a doctorate in chiropractic from Life Chiropractic College West in San Lorenzo, California. He was awarded several accolades during his clinical internship, including being named Clinic Preceptor. Dr. Meyer is a board certified diplomate by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, Parts I – IV and he is a member of the Pi Tau Delta International Chiropractic Honor Society. Dr. Meyer enjoys treating patients in a multi-disciplinary environment, working in conjunction with other health care specialists and taking a team approach towards wellness and injury recovery. Dr. Meyer has received postgraduate education and training in the following areas:
Dr. Meyer is a compassionate and knowledgeable chiropractic physician. His care of each patient is individual, taking into account not only painful symptoms, but also the stresses and other health issues his patients may be facing.
Barrie J. Pilgrim, D.C. Dr. Pilgrim completed his undergraduate studies at Queens University, in Kingston, Ontario. In 1998 he graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, MO. While at Logan he served as rehabilitation intern. He received his post graduate training from the Southern California University of Health Sciences rehabilitation program developed by Dr. Craig Liebenson. Dr. Pilgrim has been certified by the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board as a chiropractic rehabilitation specialist since 2002. Dr. Pilgrim's primary focus at Washington Medical Group is to provide rehabilitative care for those suffering with neuromusculoskeletal conditions including chronic pain and functional restoration for those injured in automobile accidents or on the job. Dr. Pilgrim enjoys the challenge of helping people with difficult chronic and recurrent pain that have been resistant to other courses of care. He feels that this is best accomplished in a multidisciplinary environment and enjoys interacting with other practitioners of different specialties to help patients identify and overcome obstacles to recovery. Dr. Pilgrim works with patients to help them become independent self-managers of their condition. He uses different combinations of advice, exercise, and manipulation to help patients meet their specific goals. He has a keen interest in spinal stabilization training, particularly the Prague school of thought and he is currently in the certification process for Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization methods according to Kolar. He also has post graduate training in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with dizziness & balance disorders, and works in conjunction with WMG neurologists to help people with these conditions. Dr. Pilgrim is an avid road cyclist and member of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. He also enjoys bowling and playing the bass guitar.
Allan F. Mirsky, Ph.D. We welcome Dr. Suzanne Southworth here at Washington Medical Group, P.C. as head of our Clinical Psychology team. Dr. Southworth obtained her B.A. in the Biological Basis of Behavior at the University of Pennsylvania in 1978. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Boston Veteran's Administration, where she received training in neuropsychology, biofeedback and psychotherapy. Her post-doctoral internship focused on cognitive-behavioral therapy for depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder. From 1991 to 2000 she taught at the California School of Professional Psychology and was the clinical director of the Cognitive Day Treatment Program at Mesa Vista Hospital in San Diego. Since moving to the DC area in 2001, Dr. Southworth has completed Fielding University's Neuropsychology Certificate Program where she studied with Dr. Allen Mirsky. Dr. Suzanne Southworth’s primary focus at Washington Medical Group P.C. has been to develop and oversee a comprehensive program that provides assessment and treatment of our patients' neuropsychological and emotional problems and coordinates their care with the other practitioners in our clinic.
