Peter B. Sorman, PH.D ABN, FACPN

Washington Medical Group, P.C. is pleased to welcome Dr. Peter B. Sorman as Chief of our Clinical Psychology/Neuropsychology Department.

Dr. Sorman completed his B.A. and M.S. degrees in psychology at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology/Clinical Neuropsychology at the City University of New York. He completed a 5-year externship and internship at the Mount Sinai College of Medicine Departments of Neurosurgery and Psychiatry in New York City. He is a Board Certified Clinical Neuropsychologist and Fellow through the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology. Dr. Sorman is a subject matter expert on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and forensic specialist in criminal and civil matters. He owned and operated a Clinical Psychology/Neuropsychology practice in Western New York for over 20 years. He has been employed as a TBI subject matter expert at the McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond Virginia, providing direct clinical intervention to active duty military and Veterans with TBI and program evaluation for a DoD initiative.

Dr. Sorman’s areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), forensic IME evaluations, pediatric and adult clinical psychology and neuropsychological assessment of learning disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders, PTSD, mood disorders, pain management (use of Alpha Stimulation and Biofeedback therapies), anxiety and panic disorders, phase of life issues, and adjustment therapy for grief and medical illness.

Dr. Sorman’s professional presentations include topics related to: Pediatric and Adult Traumatic Brain Injury, adjustment of active duty military and Veterans to Traumatic Brain Injury, ADHD, Pain Management, adjustment to medical illness, and issues related to change in phases of life. He has published articles in professional journals on topics of self-esteem, Traumatic Brain Injury, and completed a recent copyrighted book titled “Reflections of a Neuropsychologist: The Long and Short of It” soon to be published.

He is a member of professional organizations including: The American Psychological Association, International Neuropsychological Society, National Academy of Neuropsychologists, and American Board of Professional Neuropsychology. Dr. Sorman is licensed to practice in New York, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

At Washington Medical Group, P.C., Dr. Sorman is the Chief of the Clinical Psychology/Neuropsychology program. The program provides assessment and treatment of our patients’ neuropsychological and emotional problems, supervision of interns and post-doctoral fellows, and coordination of care with other practitioners in our clinic. Dr. Sorman is available for forensic Independent Medical Examinations, Expert testimony, and consultation.
